Projects | 2023-2024

Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview has taken up a diverse range of projects and initiatives. We are making a positive impact in various areas of social welfare and community service. We touch upon crucial issues such as healthcare, education, environmental conservation, and support for vulnerable populations. Through our collective efforts, we hope to make a significant difference in the lives of individuals and communities in need.

Inner Wheel Forest – District Project:

The Inner Wheel Club, in collaboration with other clubs, participated in the Inner Wheel Forest District Project at Paragoan Village near Dahanu. Despite the wet weather, the District Coordinator & Club Secretary, Smeeta Jhunjhunwala, and Club President, Dipa Kapadia, along with members from other clubs, had a great time engaging in activities they rarely do. They walked through muddy fields and rain to assist in planting a tree. The club contributed towards the planting of 20 trees in the forest that aims to include fruit trees, benefiting the adjoining school with supplementary income.

Critical Care and Research Equipment to Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care:

Recognizing the alarming number of children born with heart diseases in India and the resulting infant mortality rates, the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview partnered with the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care. The club initiated a project to strengthen the ICU, Operation Theater (O.T), and Laboratory of the center. These facilities play a crucial role in providing comprehensive services, including diagnostics, open heart surgery, post-operative care, and dietary support, all provided free of cost to children with congenital heart diseases. The generous donation from the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview facilitated the upgrade and enhancement of these essential facilities. The project included the provision of specialized equipment such as an operation table for children, operation theater lights, baby warmers, blanket warmers, and clinical lab investigation equipment. The project's total cost amounted to Rs 36,07,223. This initiative is expected to significantly improve healthcare services for children with heart diseases, ultimately reducing the prevalence of such conditions.

Installation of RO Filters to address Fluoride contamination of drinking water:

The fluoride contamination of drinking water in the villages of Rajasthan is indeed a critical health issue that has severe consequences on the well-being of the communities living in these areas. Fluoride is known to cause both skeletal and non-skeletal fluorosis, leading to various health problems and even premature deaths. Additionally, the impact of fluoride intake during pregnancy on the brain development of the fetus is a concerning aspect, as it can result in lower IQ levels in children.

It is evident that addressing this issue and providing clean and safe drinking water is of utmost importance to protect the health and future of the affected communities. The setup of 2 RO Filters by the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview is a commendable initiative that directly addresses the problem of fluoride contamination in water.

RO (Reverse Osmosis) Filters are effective in removing fluoride and other contaminants from water, ensuring that the water becomes safe for consumption. By implementing these filters in schools, the club is not only providing clean water to the students but also contributing to the overall health and well-being of the community.

The fact that these RO Filters will benefit more than 1,000 kids is significant, as it means that a large number of children will have access to safe drinking water, potentially preventing them from developing fluorosis-related health issues.

The recognition and appreciation extended to Member Sonal Punater for recommending this project and PP Rajni Barasia for making it possible through the MTPI Foundation highlight the importance of collaboration and support within the organization. Such partnerships are essential to drive meaningful and impactful projects that address pressing social and health issues.

Avoid the use of Plastic:

The support provided by the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview to Kamal Vidyalaya in Savle, Karjat, aligns perfectly with the school's mission to eradicate the use of plastic and promote environmental and sustainable practices. By donating 100 Steel Bottles to the school, the club has taken a significant step towards helping the school achieve its goal of reducing plastic waste and encouraging eco-friendly habits among the students.

Kamal Vidyalaya's commitment to eradicating the use of plastic in the school environment is commendable. Plastic pollution is a pressing global issue, and schools play a crucial role in instilling eco-consciousness in the younger generation. By promoting sustainable practices within the school premises, Kamal Vidyalaya is setting a positive example for the students and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

The donation of Steel Bottles by the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview is a practical and impactful way to support the school's mission. Steel bottles are a durable and reusable alternative to plastic bottles, making them an excellent choice for reducing single-use plastic waste. By providing these bottles to the school children, the club is not only helping the students avoid using plastic bottles but also contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Furthermore, the donation of 100 Steel Bottles underscores the scale and significance of the club's support. It demonstrates the club's commitment to making a tangible difference in promoting sustainable practices and environmental conservation.

By partnering with Kamal Vidyalaya, the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview has showcased the power of collaboration between organizations and educational institutions in driving positive change. This partnership can serve as a model for other schools and clubs to join forces and work towards a common goal of reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainability.

Safe & Unsafe Touch Workshop at Yusuf Meherally Vidyalaya:

The workshop "Sparsh" organized by the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview is a commendable initiative aimed at educating children about safe and unsafe touch. Addressing this important topic is crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of young children, and the club's efforts in this area are highly valuable.

By conducting the workshop for 80 children between the ages of 5 and 13 years old, the club is reaching a significant number of young individuals at an impressionable age. Teaching children about the importance of recognizing safe and unsafe touch empowers them to protect themselves and seek help if they ever find themselves in uncomfortable situations.

The workshop's successful execution by club member & district coordinator Anuja Shah and Zone 1 Sparsh Coordinator Pooja Kothari reflects the dedication and expertise of the club members in creating a safe and supportive learning environment for the children.

Holding the workshop at Yusuf Meherally Vidyalaya in Tardeo demonstrates the club's commitment to engaging with local schools and communities to disseminate important information. Collaborating with educational institutions can have a far-reaching impact, as it enables the club to reach a broader audience and create a lasting educational effect.

It is heartening to hear that the school principal and teachers appreciated the initiative. Support from school authorities helps reinforce the importance of such workshops and can encourage more institutions to collaborate with organizations like the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview to conduct similar educational programs.

The club members distributed chocolates to the children during the workshop to create a positive and enjoyable learning atmosphere, making the children more receptive to the information shared during the workshop.

Donation of Oxygen Concentrators:

The donation of 30 Oxygen Concentrators by the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview is a remarkable and timely response to the pressing need for medical oxygen. As the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted, access to sufficient oxygen can be critical for individuals with respiratory issues and breathing difficulties.

The distribution of these life-saving devices to 7 old age homes, Sangopita (an NGO caring for autistic and mentally impaired individuals), and 6 individual patients showcases the club's commitment to reaching out to different vulnerable populations in the community.

Old age homes often house elderly individuals who may have underlying health conditions, and having access to Oxygen Concentrators can be a crucial lifeline for those with respiratory ailments. Similarly, Sangopita, an NGO caring for autistic and mentally impaired individuals, serves a population that may have specific medical needs, and the availability of oxygen concentrators can be vital for their well-being.

By providing these devices to individual patients, the club members are directly supporting those who may not have the means to acquire such medical equipment on their own.

Dialysis Treatment for Patients at KVO Jain Manav Seva Kendra, Borivali:

The contribution of the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview towards dialysis treatments for patients who couldn't afford them is truly life-changing for those individuals. Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview is doing this with KVO Jain Manav Seva Kendra, Borivali. Dialysis is a critical medical procedure for people with renal issues, and it can be financially burdensome for many patients and their families. By funding seven dialysis treatments in July, the club members have provided a lifeline to these patients, ensuring they receive the essential treatment they need to manage their condition.

Additionally, the provision of healthy snacks to 70 patients twice during the same month is a thoughtful gesture that goes beyond medical treatment. Patients undergoing dialysis often spend considerable time at treatment centers, and providing them with nutritious snacks offers not only physical sustenance but also emotional support. It shows that the club members care about the well-being of these patients and want to make their dialysis experience more comfortable and positive.

The combined impact of these initiatives is profound. By assisting with dialysis treatments, the club is helping patients maintain their health and quality of life.

Jeevdaya – Animal Welfare:

The dedication of the members of Inner Wheel of Bombay Bayview towards animal welfare activities is truly commendable. Animals, just like humans, deserve care, compassion, and protection, and the efforts of the club members are making a positive impact on the lives of these creatures.

By extending their support to birds, cats, dogs, and cows, the organization is addressing the needs of a diverse range of animals. Each species may have different requirements and challenges, and the fact that the club members are actively involved in contributing towards medical treatment, rescuing, and feeding shows their commitment to improving the well-being of these animals.

Medical treatment is vital for animals that are injured, sick, or suffering. By providing financial support for veterinary care, the club members are helping to alleviate the pain and distress that these animals may experience. Moreover, rescuing animals from difficult situations, such as accidents, abuse, or neglect, gives them a second chance at life and the opportunity to experience love and care.

Feeding animals is essential for their survival, especially for stray animals that may not have regular access to food. The club members' efforts to provide food demonstrate a genuine concern for the welfare of these creatures and help prevent hunger and malnutrition.

Annapurna – Providing food to the needy:

Giving food to the needy is indeed one of the greatest acts of charity, and it can make a significant impact on the lives of those who are less fortunate. The members of Inner Wheel of Bombay Bayview are demonstrating a commendable commitment to helping others and making a positive difference in their community.

By providing food to those in need, not only are they addressing the immediate issue of hunger, but they are also offering hope, comfort, and support to those who may be going through difficult times. A simple act of kindness like providing a meal can indeed bring a smile to a person's face and remind them that they are cared for and valued.

In addition to helping those in need, engaging in charitable activities like this can also be an opportunity for the members of Inner Wheel of Bombay Bayview to cultivate a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the blessings and privileges they have in their own lives. Recognizing and being thankful for one's own abundance can foster empathy and a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by others.

Charitable initiatives like providing food to the needy also have the potential to create a ripple effect, inspiring others in the community to get involved and contribute to the well-being of society. Acts of kindness can foster a stronger sense of community and promote a culture of compassion and generosity.

Overall, the efforts of the Inner Wheel of Bombay Bayview serve as an example of how small actions can have a profound impact on individuals and communities, and how giving back can be a source of joy and fulfilment for both the givers and the recipients. It is a beautiful way to promote positivity and make the world a better place.

The members of the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview actively participate in various Annapurna projects, focusing on providing meals to those in need. They collaborate with several homes and institutions for senior citizens and children, offering meals and groceries to those who may not have access to adequate food.

Annapurna – Senior Citizens

The initiative taken by the members of Inner Wheel of Bombay Bayview to offer meals to senior citizens in Mumbai is truly heart-warming and impactful. The plight of elderly individuals who do not have family support or have been abandoned in their old age is a pressing concern, and this compassionate gesture goes a long way in showing them that they are cared for and valued by their community.

Providing meals to these senior citizens not only addresses their nutritional needs but also offers them companionship and a sense of belonging. Many elderly individuals often feel isolated and lonely, and these acts of kindness can bring warmth and comfort to their lives, especially during special occasions and remembrances of their own families.

Contributing towards groceries or meals for the seniors is a practical and thoughtful way to pool resources and ensure that the project can continue to benefit those in need. It also allows the members to actively participate in the process and witness the direct impact of their contributions.

Annapurna – Children

The initiative taken by the members of Inner Wheel of Bombay Bayview to offer meals to children is truly heart-warming and shows a deep sense of compassion and care for the younger generation. Providing meals to children in need not only addresses their basic nutritional requirements but also plays a crucial role in supporting their overall development and well-being.

Children who come from under privileged backgrounds may face challenges in accessing nutritious food regularly. By offering meals on special occasions and as remembrances to their own families, the members of Inner Wheel of Bombay Bayview are not only celebrating the spirit of giving but also creating a positive impact on the lives of these young individuals.

Engaging in such charitable projects has several positive outcomes. Firstly, it directly benefits the children by providing them with essential nourishment, which can positively impact their health and development. Secondly, it fosters a sense of community and empathy among the members of Inner Wheel of Bombay Bayview, as they come together for a common cause, promoting a culture of compassion and giving.

Beyond just fulfilling physical needs, offering meals to children also communicates a powerful message of support and encouragement. It shows these young individuals that they are cared for and valued by their community, boosting their self-esteem and sense of belonging.

Annapurna – Community Fridge

The installation of the "Annapurna to Community Fridge" at Lower Parel by the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview in 2020-2021, under the leadership of then President Smeeta Jhunjhunwala, is a remarkable initiative that demonstrates the club's dedication to community welfare and addressing food insecurity.

A "Community Fridge" is a concept where a refrigerator is placed in a public space, and people can donate excess food or perishable items. Anyone in need can take food from the fridge without any cost or questions asked. It is an excellent way to reduce food waste and provide nutritious meals to those who may not have regular access to food.

The name "Annapurna" is quite fitting, as it represents the goddess of food and nourishment in Hindu mythology, signifying the purpose of the initiative—to ensure that people have access to meals and are nourished.

Club member Charu Shah's commitment to maintaining the community fridge is praiseworthy. Her efforts in ensuring that the fridge is always stocked with healthy and filling meals are crucial to the success of the initiative. By making sure that there is not a single day when the fridge is empty, she is ensuring that street dwellers and those in need have access to food consistently.
