We started this year at full throttle, with 10 projects completed in our term's first 10 days!
[1] 1st July Tree Plantation - 300 mango saplings planted at Vankas, Dahanu.
[2] Hearing aid for 3 year old Latisha.
[3] In a Joint Project with IWC Queens Necklace, we sponsored roofs for the homes of 33 poor Tribal families from Dahanu affected by cyclone Tauktae.
[4] 4 laptops for School on Wheels in Kosesari Tribal village at Dahanu District.
[5] Stocked the Dahanu School on Wheels library with age appropriate books.
[6] Sponsored workbooks for 100 kids in Govane school.
[7] 30 Bedsheets given to the senior citizens at Vasai.
[8] Callipers for Ritu Sha, at Sandeep Deep, through the Paraplegic Foundation, Airoli, Navi Mumbai.
[9] Baby warmer for Wadia Hospital. Faith has power and prayers do get answered - in this case prayers of the parents who tied bells were answered with our small contribution.
[10] 10th July was this year first Annapoorna day at Sangopita, an ongoing project of monthly Food Sewa.
We paid school fees for 15 children in Sawhney School, Khar.
We distributed 90 umbrellas to the girls of Rescue Foundation in Boisar.
With the pandemic increasing their patient traffic, hospitals are facing a resource crunch. So we decided to do our bit to help them:
We donated new clothes to all the 36 kids for Diwali in lieu of our members birthday contributions. Sharing pictures of all the girls looking very gorgeous after wearing your given clothes - do view the album on the gallery page.
IWCBB celebrated Diwali by gifting new clothes to the HIV infected children of Desire society in Malad. The children cut the cake (which we ordered from a young girl who has started a thriving home baking business (and is the daughter of an ex IWCBB MEMBER).
We gifted the stationary, DIY rangoli kits chocolates, nail polish, earrings (which we bought from ladies who we helped in setting their new business of imitation jewellery in Ulhasnagar keeping in mind women's empowerment), drawing books, board games etc.
They were so happy when they opened their gifts, each one got new clothes, all different styles and colors. They danced happily after putting on their new Diwali clothes and had a gala time.
This was a joint project with Rotary Club of Bombay Bayview, where we gave 35 bicycles to 35 girls at Govane school in Dahanu. They had to walk one and a half hour one way to go to school and another half returning home. With the cycles they will save commuting time and concentrate more on their studies while having a way to get around during non school times too.
In Dec, we distributed 50 packets of mixed dry fruits to the kids patients of the paediatric ward of JJ hospital. We gave laddus and bhujia for the sisters also.
We got together with our sister Club to donate 24 beds (12 by each Club) to a senior citizens home at Vishramghar in Karjat on 14th Dec 2021 on the auspicious day of Geeta Jayanti.
We also distributed fruits and vegetables and snacks to the seniors plus the staff - 100 people in total. These are the seniors who are abandoned by their children and thrown on the road. Many of them have many health problems and there were 20 mentally disabled people amongst them too.
A total of 80 seniors benefitted from this project which costed us only two lacs. President OF IWCBB Grishma Doshi and President OF IWC Bombay North Jayshree Mody were in attendance. District Chairman Sunita Jain graced us with her presence as well.
We distributed 2660 brand new high quality sweaters to the under privileged tribal students of 19 Zilla Parishad schools in Dahanu Taluka.
This benefitted 2660 school children. Sweaters were distributed to the students Jamshet Patilpada, Jamshet Dongripada, Jamshet Mangatpada , Sogave Dongripada, Sogave Dhodadepada, Sogave Patilpada, Sogave, and Paraswadi Paraspada.
Students get serious skin problems especially during winter season. Sweaters will keep them warm and healthy and their school attendance will remain constant which will help in their quality education.
Roshni foundation chairperson Ms Geetaji Muchala wrote us a letter of appreciation which got all our members emotional. Sharing her letter below:
Dear Rajni ji,
I am very emotional today and extremely happy to let you know that your project of Sweater's Distribution is a super great hit! It has become a talk of the town and many Z.P. School's teachers have been calling up each day and requesting to donate to their children too.
Our children are extremely excited to get this valuable gift right before the onset of harsh winter.
We are happy to inform that we have almost completed the distribution of sweaters. There will be a reround of distribution for those students who were absent.
Z.P. schools have been functioning upto lunch time these days, but children waited till 5 pm to get the sweaters and did not go home to eat food. When we informed them that we would come the next day, they were reluctant to go home and kept waiting till we reached.
These small babies and children's eyes were full of excitement and happiness. I don't have enough words to explain nor to thank all your donors, club members and respectable President.
I understand that you all have worked very very hard to collect a massive donation to shower your care on a huge number of underprivileged children. But, their inner unsaid expressions were enough to send back a lot of love to all of you.
Stay blessed and keep doing wonderful work!

We had donated a community fridge lower panel opp Phoenix Mills last year and since then we have made sure to replenish the food stock daily. Every day we donate food for the poor, making sure we feed as many homeless people as possible.
Our club has been taking care of animals and birds since a few years, as part of our ongoing Jeevdaya project. We give shelter homes to cows, look after injured birds and animals, give feed to the pigeons and cows. They also need help and care even if they can't ask us for help.
Our Club sponsored the medical treatment for animals at Bhumi Jeevdaya at their Vashi centre. Since this centre is on the highway lot of accident cases come to this centre. Three dogs were brought to this centre and are in coma so saline is being given to them. We contributed for the medical treatment of 2 dogs and 2 cats. Both the dogs were bitten by maggots. One cat had a kidney issue so treatment for that started. The other cat was x-rayed as its paws were crushed and a surgery had to be performed in an emergency. There is a goat there too, with a problem in its nervous system and one of her legs is being treated for paralysis. A little rabbitis suffering from severe skin infection and a bird is being treated for a wing injury. Praying that all these animals get the appropriate treatment and are back on their feet soon.
Due to the Third Wave of Covid19, one of our flagship events since inception of the Club - INDRADHANUSH - was postponed. Since it involved children who are still not vaccinated, we did not want to put them at risk.
An NGO Jyot is running a education support classes for kids under privileged community residing in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar. The BMC demolished their hutments and, unfortunately, there was unseasonal rains after the demolition.
These 25 families were reduced to sitting under a flyover bridge near Ulhanagar railway station and were literally starving. Some have even fallen sick. We gave them grocery and medicine support for their basic survival.
We provided a Tricycle for a 13 year old handicapped school boy of the Zilla Parishad School in Bahare, Dahanu. Five members were in attendance, along with President Grishma Doshi as well as DC Sunita Jain.
Today we celebrated Republic Day at Geetanagar whereas we distributed sweets, South Indian delicacies, Biscuits and fruit drink to 120 kids of the bal wadi. Kids also participated in celebration with dance on the tunes of patriotic songs. One 90 year old lady hoisted the flag on the behalf of Innerwheel club of Bombay Bayview.
We also distributed 125 blankets to the deserving kids and staff of the balwadi. Distribution of ration to 20 economically challenged kids at Geetanagar will be done on Saturday.
We donated motorised wheelchairs to 3 beneficiaries who have injured their spines, via the Paraplegic Foundation in Airoli.
A govt run shelter that houses and rehabilitates those rescued from sexual exploitation and abuse, trafficking, abandoned children rescued from railway/bus stations, and kids with disabilities is situated in Ulhasnagar. They were in need of mattresses, so IWCBB donated 35 mattresses, pillows, pillowcovers and bedsheets for their use. We also gifted them Mandala colouring books and crayons, and treated them to masala dosas and gulab jamuns.
Towards the end of February, the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview, part of International Inner Wheel, donated an Ambulance which is going to be given to the Dahanu District for the Adivasi Tribal Villagers. As President Grishma puts it, "The poor Adivasi Tribal villagers have lost many dear and near ones because of the unavailability of an ambulance, especially during Covid times. Moreover, pregnant women of the village have been carried for ages on foot in bedsheets for deliveries which have often resulted in complications or loss of life before even reaching the hospital. This should be, and is, totally unacceptable to the women of these times, especially the Innerwheel women."
The ambulance was handed over to Roshni Foundation, an NGO, by Inner Wheel District Chairman Sunita Jain in presence of other district dignitaries and members.
We inaugrated 2 toilet blocks that we built for the boys and girls of the Vilramgarh zilla school in Dahanu, Palavpada. The children, and especially their mothers, were very happy with this.
Hygiene is of utmost imortance - the Swach Bharat Abhyan has taught all of India this, so what better contribution can we make than providing toilets!! 44 children and many many more will benefit from this project.
The best way to celebrate Women's Day is to support and appreciate other women, so we celebrated with the Adivasi women of Dahanu. It gave us lots of joy to distribute 200 saris, blouses and towels (which is their attire) to the Adivasi tribal women of Dahanu. It gave us great pleasure to see their smiles, which in turn made us smile!!
District Vice Chairman Mita Sheth accompanied us to Shahpur Mahuli village where district 314 has restored a lake and a well. This is under the banner of the Amrit Manthan project. The 200 year old well was in a deteriorated condition so we built a new well for them under the aegis of this project. This will now provide potable safe water to 22 Padas, 6 villages and a total of 6000 plus people will benefit from it.
Association President Saroj Katiyar inaugurated this project with District Chairman Sunita Jain, the entire District ExComm, as well as District 314 Presidents and members.
Last week we visited a school in the interiors of Rajasthan. The students were mainly from poor Adivasi and Banjara families and studying in extremely pathetic conditions. There were no basic facilities such as lights, fans, tables or even a chair for teachers.
So we donated table and chairs for teachers, lights and fans for all the 8 classrooms. We also celebrated the distribution ceremony with Chole Puri and gulab jamun for all the 70 kids, teachers and staff. Gifts were distributed to all the teachers and staff as a token of appreciation for their hard work in such harsh conditions.
We have also committed to giving a bicycle to the child who stands first in his/ her class in the final exams as an extra incentive to motivate the children to focus on their studies. We hope this will ease the learning conditions for many years to come for this school. Rajasthan local news chose to write about us.
Another project we completed as a Joint Zone 1 project was funding the FTS - Friends of Tribal Society, a non profit organisation working for the upliftment of tribals in the field of education and health.
On this fine spring morning, IWCBB visited the flamingo park at Airoli, along with the IWC of Bombay Harbour. Vice President Sonia Gupta is the cordinator for this District project to conserve the mangroves at the edge of Mumbai, and making a visit here was a part of this project. A total of 4 members attended this visit. It was breathtakingly beautiful to see a pink blanket in Thane Creek, the largest in Asia. It is so rare for us cityfolk to see nature's true glory - so this was a shockingly pleasant sight to behold!!
Indradhanush is a flagship children's event, held annually since the inception of our Club. This year, this CC event was held at BKM school in Babulnath. As usual, an art competition was held, this time for 63 school kids studying in grade 8. We had to limit numbers, as this was an in person event, unlike the ones held during the Corona years. Needless to say, there was a lot of excitement and enthusiasm to have this event face to face again.
Keeping in mind the world current events and the mood of the times, the topic was "End War, Bring Peace". Our Rotary Club of Bombay Bayview's President Jankhana Mehta was invited to grace us with her presence as Chief Guest. Fifteen of our Club members attended this event.
We gifted 12 gifts to each and every participating child and also gave them snack boxes. There were 12 consolation prizes, as well as first, second and third prize winners too.
Few of my members joined me for a wonderful project where we fitted 12 individuals with a Jaipur foot. This was done through Ratna Nidhi charitable trust in Lower Parel. It was heart warming to see people without a foot (lost due to diabetes, polio, accidents etc.) who were thrilled to be walking independently again, with the help of their Jaipur foot. God bless them always!!
