Projects | 2024-2025

During 2024-25, the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview has embraced a wide array of initiatives and programs aimed at fostering social welfare and serving the community. Our endeavors address critical areas such as health, education, environmental sustainability, and aid for marginalized groups. By working together, we aspire to create meaningful and lasting improvements in the lives of those who require assistance, making a tangible difference in the well-being of individuals and communities alike.

Key Project of the Year: SRCC Oncology & Chemotherphy

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally, and its impact on children is particularly devastating. At SRCC, a pediatric specialty hospital, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of young cancer patients. A major challenge for these families is the lack of insurance coverage, leaving 80% of these patients in need of financial assistance for their oncology treatment. The long duration of the therapies places significant financial strain on parents, making it difficult for them to provide the necessary care for their children. SRCC is dedicated to offering specialized treatment to children under 18, and it plays a crucial role in their battle against cancer.

To address this gap, our initiative has been providing continuous support to these young patients and their families throughout the year. As of now, we have been able to assist 24 children, contributing Rs. 50,000/-. per patient to cover their treatment expenses. This project holds a special place in my heart, as it has been deeply moving to see the strength and resilience of these young fighters in their battle against cancer.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to supporting SRCC and its efforts to provide care for these children. Together, we can create miracles for these brave children and ensure that their families are not burdened by the financial strain of cancer treatment. Special Thanks to IPDC and Past President Mita Sheth for coordinating with the hospital and helping me realise my dream.

A Groundbreaking Toys and Book Library Initiative: Transforming Learning Spaces

In a pioneering effort, the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Bayview established an educational toys and books library at Michael School in Kurla, valued at Rs. 9,00,000. The library, with over 2,500 educational materials, serves more than 3,000 children from Nursery to Grade 2. The school lacked resources to engage young students, which hindered the teachers' ability to employ modern teaching techniques. With the new library, the school now has a broad spectrum of learning materials that will greatly enhance the educational experience for these children. Additionally, the Inner Wheel branding was prominently displayed, fulfilling a key need for visibility.

The project was officially inaugurated on 6th July by District Chairman Prerana Raichur, with Inner Wheel members in attendance. The library not only provides essential resources but also creates a more dynamic and interactive learning environment. By equipping teachers with modern tools, it supports the children's overall development and helps them connect with their lessons in an enjoyable way.

Special thanks to Past President Tejal Damani for securing the library and to Past Rajni Barasia for ensuring its placement at Michael School.

This initiative addresses the critical need for immediate medical assistance in the Dashkorshi region. The newly acquired ambulance will provide vital support by facilitating transportation to nearby medical facilities. This donation will benefit 11 villages, serving a population of approximately 12,000 residents, and significantly enhance the health and safety infrastructure of the community.

This initiative profoundly transformed their quality of life by restoring their vision, enabling them to regain independence and perform daily tasks with ease. Improved eyesight also allowed the patients to reestablish social and familial connections, fostering a renewed sense of belonging. This simple yet impactful intervention not only enhanced their physical health but also significantly improved their mental well-being, confidence, and overall happiness, making a meaningful difference in their lives.

Leprosy: Leprosy patients often experience nerve damage, especially in their feet, resulting in a loss of sensation that increases their risk of injuries, burns, and infections. The disease can also cause foot deformities, making specialized footwear essential to prevent further complications. To support these patients, we partnered with Alert India to provide MRC footwear as part of a birthday initiative by our members. A total of 100 kits, valued at Rs. 500 each, were distributed to 100 patients, offering them much-needed protection and comfort. Additionally, the club supports 70 patients with healthy snacks twice a month, offering both physical nourishment and emotional comfort during long treatment sessions. These efforts greatly improve the patients' health and overall quality of life.

Solar Panels: As responsible urban citizens, it is our duty to contribute to the development of rural areas. In line with this vision, we installed nine solar panels at Z.P. Kajali School, Talasari Taluka, at a cost of ₹2,50,000. The school, which serves 195 students from Grades 1 to 8, now benefits from a renewable and eco-friendly energy source. Solar power reduces dependency on conventional electricity, lowers energy costs, and ensures uninterrupted learning sessions, especially in areas with frequent power outages. This initiative supports the operation of smart classrooms, allowing the use of modern educational tools like interactive lessons, digital content, and online resources to enrich the learning experience. Moreover, it promotes sustainability and fosters environmental awareness among students. The savings from reduced energy expenses can be redirected to enhance other educational programs or infrastructure, creating a lasting impact on the school and its students.

Solar Lights: In the tribal regions of Dahanu, Palghar, and Vikramgadh, where basic electrical amenities are still a luxury for families living 150 km away from Mumbai, we donated 100 solar lights to address this critical need. With a total cost of ₹3,60,000, these solar lights provide a sustainable and eco-friendly solution, meeting essential electricity requirements and offering much-needed relief to over 500 individuals in these communities. This impactful initiative was carried out in collaboration with our parent organization, the Rotary Club of Bombay Bayview, showcasing our shared commitment to enhancing the quality of life in underserved areas through innovative and sustainable efforts.

It focused on enhancing physical strength, mental resilience, and personal security awareness. By learning practical skills, students were empowered to protect themselves and others, fostering independence and self-reliance. This initiative played a key role in creating a safer environment for the students while promoting personal growth and empowerment.

Support To District 314 Projects:

Girls Hostel at Madhavrao Kane Ashramshala, Devgaon, Wada: Madhavrao Kane Ashramshala currently serves 758 tribal students, including 375 girls. However, the school had only one damaged dormitory with 8 toilets, housing just 70 girls, while the rest slept in classrooms with their belongings. There was a significant lack of basic sanitation and hygiene facilities. To improve the living conditions and well-being of these girls, District 314 proposed the construction of a dedicated Girls Hotel. We are proud to contribute Rs. 10,00,000/-. towards this vital cause through our member, IPP Dipa Kapadia, and are deeply grateful for her support in this project.
